Materials
Polyester overlays contain high tensile strength and are suited to die cutting and printing applications. This material is commonly used for industrial controls, medical equipment, commercial and household appliances, and many other electronics. In certain applications, polyester has greater durability when compared to polycarbonate and tends to cost less for higher volumes.
Polycarbonate overlays feature a high mechanical strength. Overlays made from this material appear in similar applications as polyester overlays; however, polycarbonate is best suited for applications with minimal or no flex requirements. Compared to polyester, polycarbonate displays superior optical clarity and is known for high light transmissions with low haze values.
